Chasing Sunsets | Vancouver Family Photographer

Back in the Spring, Joyce contacted me asking for family portraits with a sunset as the background. We’ve been having a bit of a drought, to say the least, all year so we didn’t think finding a sunny evening would be too difficult. Well, we were wrong! Three times over the course of the Summer we had to reschedule our shoot because every time our planned evening rolled around, it rained. It rained for just a day, but always on THAT day.
Well, this past weekend the dry weather spell broke and we have been inundated with stormy weather that is scheduled to last at least a week. Guess what day it started to rain? Yes, shoot day. At this point, we had almost given up, and since it stopped pouring for a few hours, we ran out to make the most of it. What we didn’t expect was that at the end of our shoot, out of the black clouds would come one of the most glorious sunsets of the Summer! And then about an hour after that, the rains returned in all their fury.
Now, I’m tempted to let you think that my world is all perfect timing and rosy, so I’ll let you in on a secret and admit that the sunset truly emerged in its full pink and purple glory 45 minutes AFTER our shoot had ended. We only caught the beginning of it not knowing what was yet to come. But a little Photoshop magic saved the day and we finally had exactly what we had been aiming for all along :).
Here is a little sneak peek of this wonderful family (including little Sugar, who tagged along)!
